The MCDOT Pedestrian Safety team will be at Ellsworth Place Mall to spread awareness to Montgomery County residents about driver and pedestrian safety. Learning materials and safety-related giveaways will be available to educate experienced and new drivers about the importance of safety on our roadways.

A pedestrian hybrid beacon (PHB) is designed to help pedestrians safely cross busy streets by providing a protected crossing. While slightly different in appearance than typical traffic signals, pedestrian activation of this beacon is performed like other push-button activated traffic signals in the County.  Ultimately, activating the PHB displays a red signal indicating stopping traffic, allowing pedestrians to cross the road with a WALK signal.
